Compass Import Results into Analytics

This guide explains how to import Victorian Curriculum results into the Analytics module.

Step 1: Create an Analytics Cycle

  1. Go to the Analytics Administration page.
  2. Click Add Analytics Cycle.
  3. Select Victorian Curriculum (2017) as the cycle type.
  4. Enter a preferred name for the cycle (e.g., 2019 Victorian Curriculum Semester 1).

Step 2: Get Your Victorian Curriculum File

You can retrieve the file in two ways:

Option 1: Export from Compass Semester Reports (recommended)

  1. Navigate to Teaching and Learning → Semester Reports.
  2. Choose your reporting cycle and click Exports.
  3. Select Victorian Curriculum CASES21 (PRS212).
    • The file will be downloaded in XML format.

Option 2: Export from CASES21 (for Victorian public schools not using Compass reports)

  1. Export the required student data from CASES21.
  2. The file will be generated in XML format (e.g., VicCurricSemesterOne2017Students.XML).

Important: Do not open the XML file in Excel before importing, as this can corrupt the file structure and prevent a successful import.

Step 3: Import the File into Analytics

  1. Go to the Analytics Administration page.
  2. Click Add Analytics Cycle.
  3. Select Victorian Curriculum (2017) as the cycle type.
  4. Enter your preferred name for the cycle.
  5. Click Choose File and select the exported XML file.
  6. Click Create.

Step 4: Final Setup

  1. Set Staff Visibility to Read-Only.
    • This allows staff to analyse student results without making changes.
  2. The data is now available for analysis in the Analytics module.

This process creates a dedicated Victorian Curriculum cycle, allowing staff to review and analyse student progression data effectively.
